Every child has a unique way of creating. The most meaningful artwork is not always the one that looks perfect — it is the one created through curiosity, exploration, and imagination.
Looking for a fun kids activity in Utah before the new school year begins?
Tiny Land is excited to invite families to join Pencil Box Art Studio’s Annual Open House, the free community events celebrating creativity, connection, and the joy of making art.
This year, Pencil Box Art Studio will host two free Open House events at its Millcreek and Alpine locations.
Families are invited to explore the studio, create artwork through hands-on activities, meet the art teachers, and connect with their local community.

Discover Pencil Box Art Studio
Pencil Box Art Studio is a process art studio for children ages 1-11. Their belief is simple: the magic happens in the process of art making, not just in the finished product.
Instead of focusing on creating a perfect final piece, children are encouraged to explore different art materials, experiment with creative techniques, and express their own ideas.
At Pencil Box, there is no wrong way to make art. Every child is welcome to explore, get messy, and enjoy the experience of creating something uniquely their own.
This child-led approach to creativity gives children the opportunity to build confidence, practice self-expression, and discover the joy of creating.
The Creative Activities for Families
As families prepare for a new school year, creative experiences can help children feel connected, confident, and excited to explore new experiences.
Pencil Box Art Studio’s Annual Open House is a gift to the community and a way for families to celebrate creativity together.
This will be the 4th year of the annual Open House, and it is also an exciting year as Pencil Box welcomes families to its new Alpine location.
During the event, families can:
- Explore the art studio
- Create through hands-on art activities
- Meet the art teachers
- Connect with other local families
Children of different ages are welcome to join the Open House, where they can learn and create alongside a teaching team experienced in supporting toddlers, preschoolers, homeschoolers, and elementary-age children.
With educators who understand the unique needs and interests of different age groups, Pencil Box Art Studio creates a welcoming space for children to explore, experiment, and enjoy the creative process.
Create at Three Art-Making Stations
Families can enjoy three creative art stations during the Open House:
- Design Your Name
Create personalized artwork inspired by your name and imagination.
- Clay Creations
Explore shaping, building, and experimenting with clay.
- Painted Paper Gardens
Create colorful paper gardens through painting and paper art.
Each activity encourages children to focus on creativity, exploration, and the process of making art rather than a specific final result.

What to Expect from Tiny Land
During the Open House events, families will have the opportunity to experience Tiny Land easels and discover how one creative space can inspire different ways of making art.
Children can explore the easel’s different features, including the chalkboard, whiteboard, and paper roll, while creating freely and expressing their imagination.
As part of the event, families will also have the chance to take home a Tiny Land easel through the event giveaways.
