For most of us, toys are part of a child’s everyday life — something they play with and grow alongside.
But in some families, toys become something more: a source of comfort, familiarity, and quiet support during uncertain times.
A few weeks ago, we heard a story that reminded us of this in the most meaningful way.
A sudden loss
A family from Nutley, New Jersey had just experienced something life-changing — a severe fire in their apartment.
In the fire, they lost almost all of their belongings. Among them was something deeply special to their little boy, Kenny: his Tiny Land play kitchen.
Kenny may not fully understand what happened, but he knows this kitchen was a gift for his second birthday — from his favorite grandmother.
His mom told us the kitchen had become part of Kenny’s daily routine. He would spend time there every day, cooking, imagining, and building his own little imaginary world.
It wasn’t just a toy sitting in a room for Kenny.
It was where he explored. Where he felt at ease. Where his imagination lived.

The struggle after the fire
Kenny’s family did not have renter’s insurance, and rebuilding after the fire has been incredibly difficult in every way.
In the middle of everything they were trying to recover, little Kenny kept asking the same question:
“Where is my kitchen?”
For his parents, there were already so many heavy things to carry. Hearing that question again and again made an already difficult time even harder.
What Tiny Land decided to do
When we read their message, we saw a little boy trying to find something familiar again.
And we felt he deserved that comfort and support.
So we sent Kenny a new Tiny Land kitchen, with a small hope that something he loves could return to his world during such an uncertain time.

Kenny today
Kenny‘s family is safe now and slowly rebuilding their lives.
And Kenny… has his kitchen back.
To adults, a toy is a gift filled with love.
To a child, it can be a piece of home.
Thank you to Kenny and his family for allowing us to share their story, and for trusting us to be part of it.
We’re wishing you strength, healing, and steady days ahead.
