The Tiny Land® Dollhouse & Dollhouse Garage Bundle was recently featured on Yahoo Creator, where Amber Katz, creator of All Things Lifestyle, shared her firsthand experience using the set with her almost-two-year-old son.
After three weeks of everyday play, Katz found that the dollhouse and garage had become a regular part of her son’s routine—and, notably, gave her consistent 30-minute blocks of independent play time.
A Toddler Who Kept Coming Back to the Dollhouse
Katz shared that her son quickly developed favorite features within the garage, especially the flip-up garage door, rolling lawnmower, and SUV with a surfboard.
The garage door became a particular favorite. As Katz put it, her son would open and close it roughly 47 times per session.
The fact that the different elements could be opened, moved, and explored gave her son plenty to interact with rather than simply looking at a static play setup.
The dollhouse offered another area to explore, with multiple rooms and movable furniture.
Katz noted that her son enjoyed rearranging the furniture and was already developing strong opinions about where the tiny couch should go and where different dollhouse family members should sit.
30 Minutes of Independent Play
One of the biggest takeaways from Katz’s experience was the amount of independent play she observed.
She shared that the dollhouse had given her consistent 30-minute blocks of solo play time—something particularly meaningful during the demanding toddler years.
While her son played independently, Katz described being able to drink her coffee while it was still hot, answer emails, or simply sit on the couch.
After several weeks, the value of that independent play time had become an important part of her perspective on the set.
What Play Looked Like in Real Life
Katz also gave a detailed glimpse into what her son actually did while playing.
Sometimes he would disappear into the playroom and narrate his own little world, complete with “vroom vroom” sounds from the SUV and his own door-slamming sound effects.
Other times, he would bring specific pieces over for his mom to admire—or simply ask her to watch him open the garage door again.
The play also changed from day to day. Some days were focused mainly on the garage, while other days centered around the dollhouse and its furniture.
Because the dollhouse and garage can be played with separately or together, Katz found that her son had different ways to approach the set and create new play scenarios.
Hands-On Play That Keeps Him Engaged
For Katz, the appeal went beyond simply keeping her son occupied.
She observed him working out how to fit furniture through doorways, rearranging pieces, moving vehicles, and figuring out where different elements belonged.
These everyday interactions gave him opportunities to practice fine motor skills and problem-solving while exploring the dollhouse on his own.
At the same time, the combination of rooms, furniture, figures, vehicles, and garage accessories gave him room to develop his own imaginative play—even if, as Katz noted, he was not quite at elaborate storytelling yet.
A Parent’s Perspective on the Investment
Katz admitted that the price initially made her pause.
After three weeks of watching her son independently play with the set, however, she felt the experience had made the investment worthwhile.
She also highlighted the set’s solid wooden construction, eco-friendly materials, and non-toxic finishes, along with its ability to withstand her son’s enthusiastic everyday play.
For Katz, the value ultimately came down to more than the physical features of the dollhouse.
It was seeing her son continue to choose the set day after day—and the pockets of time it gave her while he played independently.
Her experience offers a genuine parent’s perspective on a play set that became part of her son’s everyday routine over several weeks.
