Supporting Children Through School-Based Mental Health and Wellness Programming

Tiny Land is pleased to support PR Community Services (PRCS), a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing school-based mental health and wellness programming to children and adolescents on Chicago’s South and West Sides.

PRCS serves students in K–9 across three different schools and community settings. As part of its work with children and adolescents, PRCS uses hands-on activities and play-based materials within counseling activities, small groups, wellness spaces, and student regulation resources.

Hands-On Activities in PRCS Programming

According to Katrina Gainey, Community Engagement Specialist and Lead Child & Adolescent Therapist at PRCS, hands-on activities are used in her work with children and adolescents to help students practice emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, social skills, and confidence.

Toys and play-based materials are incorporated directly into its programming. These resources can be used to support activities that help students:

  • Develop social-emotional skills and self-regulation

  • Build creativity and positive engagement through play

  • Participate in therapeutic and wellness activities

  • Experience safe, supportive spaces that promote overall well-being

A Teepee for PRCS’s School-Based Mental Health & Wellness Program

For its School-Based Mental Health & Wellness Program, PRCS identified the Tiny Land Teepee Tent for Kids with Mat as the best fit for its programming.

PRCS plans to use the teepee at one of the three schools it serves. According to PRCS, the teepee would provide students with a welcoming space where they can:

  • Take a quiet break and decompress

  • Read, reflect, or practice calming activities

  • Feel comfortable and supported during wellness sessions

  • Participate in age-appropriate social-emotional activities

PRCS plans to incorporate the teepee into its programming as a resource for counseling activities, wellness sessions, and age-appropriate social-emotional activities.

A cream-colored Tiny Land® Eco-friendly Teepee is set up indoors with flowers and a leaf mat inside. Close by are a plush giraffe, toy campfire, green cushion, potted plants, and apples on the floor.
