For 75 years, Maplewood Elementary’s “Peacemakers” have been part of the East Austin community, creating a place where more than 400 children can learn, grow, and connect.
As Maplewood celebrates its 75th anniversary, the school community is coming together to revitalize its outdoor learning and play spaces and create more welcoming places for children to explore and play.
Tiny Land is honored to support this effort by providing our Mud Kitchen for Maplewood’s Pre-K students, helping bring more opportunities for imaginative, hands-on outdoor play to the school’s youngest learners.
A Community Coming Together for Kids
Maplewood Elementary currently has two Pre-K classrooms serving children around four and five years old.
The school is working to transform its existing play spaces into welcoming areas where young children can explore, play, and learn.
The project has already brought parents and members of the school community together.
During a recent work day, parents helped clean and organize old toys as part of the effort to give the space a fresh start.
It’s a simple but meaningful reflection of the community’s commitment to creating better experiences for its children.
As the revitalization continues, Maplewood hopes to build an outdoor space that encourages children to be curious, creative, and engaged through hands-on play.
A New Place to Explore, Create, and Play
As Maplewood Elementary works to revitalize its outdoor spaces, we’re excited for the Mud Kitchen to become part of a play environment designed with young learners in mind.
For Pre-K children, outdoor play can be as simple as getting their hands dirty, experimenting with what they find around them, or turning an everyday moment into a game.
A Mud Kitchen gives them a dedicated place to do just that—while making room for creativity, cooperation, and plenty of imagination.
More than a piece of play equipment, we hope it becomes a space that children return to again and again, bringing new ideas and new ways to play each time.
We can’t wait to see the stories, creations, and little adventures that Maplewood’s youngest Peacemakers bring to their new play space.
